Modernising Medical Careers - how to succeed in MMCHere are the basic facts about MMC. We are regularly talking to Deanery leads and MMC educationalists to ensure that the interview skills course is fully optimised for MMC. Our inside knowledge can be turned to your advantage. We know! This is the biggest change in postgraduate medical education since the Calman changes in 1996. Whilst MMC provides the structure, this enables PMETB to develop UK-wide standards for postgraduate training, curricula and quality assurance. MMC, led by educational leaders such as Profs Crockard, Heard and Paice, hopes ultimately to improve patient safety by having more patients treated by doctors who have been systematically trained. All doctors not in a training programme from 1st Jan 2007 will have to compete for jobs in MMC. Applications can be 1:4, 4:1 or 2:2 geography:speciality, and are all submitted via the MTAs portal. Interviews will be structured and key competencies (yes we know them) are what will determine success. GPVTS / GPSTP entry is being brought into MMC, so that applications can include a single application to a GPSTP, and the shortlisting is being standardised to a machine marked invigilated paper). "Buddy" applications will be permitted to allow candidates to apply to regions. Visit the link to ST interviews for more details of how to book your course to get prepared for MMC. In 2007, this is your chance, but you've got to stand out from the crowd! The Hammersmith Interview course has helped countless doctors to get the jobs they wanted, and we'll help you give the MMC application and interview process your very best. These courses are likely to be oversubscribed. Click here to book now
